This was my final major project for my third year as a Illustration and Animation student. My ideas for the project are based from the concepts about transformations into superheroes with the ability to transform. This can stem from comic books, American animation, Anime, and movies adaptation. Even the Japanese media of Tokusatsu that consists of live action shows and movies with special effects. Ranging from Godzilla, Ultraman, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai (also known as Power Rangers).
This is based on my personal interest I grew up with. I wanted to work on this concept because I have been passionate about superheroes with transformation sequences that have energetic and flashy visuals. This would have the hero stand out from their mundane counterpart, making them colourful and powerful.
I took into the idea of the superheroes from various fictions, mostly from Tokusatsu, I wanted to have my own spin from the media. Taking the suit that is usually made from spandex or rubber into illustration and animation, exaggerating the proportions of the character designs. I even look at the usual motif’s superheroes would have.
My outcome is a series of animated comic pages, the narrative is about two heroes: Beetle Knight and Elemix spending a day at the Science Museum. There they talk about their origins and what made them be the heroes they are. I used the aspects of both Japanese and Western illustration and animation so that I made my own style for the story and characters.
